I just fed my young pixie frog a mouse yesterday, how long do I have to wait to feed again?
Hi, From what I have heard and read, it is recommended to feed an adult mouse every 2 or 3 weeks. Other live foods such as roaches can be feed every 2-3 days. A varied diet is best. If you haven't already, check out the Frog and toad care Articles to the left of this page.![]()
If he is young, then probably within 4-5 days. Though Pyxies love their mice, please keep mice as a very occassional treat only. They are high in fat and can cause your frog to be obese, which, as in us humans, can lead to health problems and early death. A main staple of crickets, worms, roaches and locusts are best.
This was his first mouse, so I won't feed him another for awhile. Do you know where to purchase roaches? They don't sell roaches at the petstores where I live.
You can order starter colony online. The most popular are Dubia roaches.
Dubia roaches are very healthy and easy to raise, or so I've heard. I can't get them where I am in Canada (dang it), so I started a colony of Hissing roaches. Only problem is, I got attached to the hissers and now have a second batch of babies on the way.....word of caution: do NOT get attached to the food!
