Hi I have had my American Green Tree frogs since last Christmas, all was going very well until last Friday when I noticed that one of them was staying in the same place for long periods of time and not hiding away in the way when he normally does. Over the next couple of days I kept an eye on him and everytime I open the tank he would just sit there not moving. It was now been nearly a week, he is not feeding, has got very weak and very thin, also has gone a very strange colour, barely green at all. Hve tried feeding by hand but no interest at all. Opinions would be very gratefully received as im now extremely concerned. Thanks Nikki

Oh my goodness I don't know where to start. American Green, had since Christmas, got from pet store, was told he was a baby. Feed live crickets which are put in calcium every 3 feeds. I boil up water every couple of days and its cooled before I refresh the bowl and mist bottle. He has lived with a grey tree frog and another green tree frog since January. I clean the tank with a specific spray designed for frogs and I use kitchen roll. I don't handle the frogs, apart from the one time one escaped and I used my bare hands to ick him back up. Feeders roam free. Is this enough info?
Hi Nikki,
Welcome to Frog Forum
I have moved this thread to the tree frog area where it will much more attention !
I will start with some VERY basic information. There are some things you can do right away to help the frog
There is a lot of to talk about !
I have a few minutes before I have to get ready for work...I will get things going for you.
Other member will help as well.......................it's what we do
As LilyPad ( Amy) has suggested .....Please answer the question above
Pictures will help us ( if possible, please) of all you frogs
some emergency info for you :

Lets start by making some suggestion for the frog that is not eating.
1 -He should be separated ( asap) from all the others and put int a QT ( quarantine) tanks.
QT is simply a small , sage escape proof enclosure to put him while he is ill? to keep an extra close eye on whats going on.
There you will be able to monitor food intake and observe his poop. Diarrhea is will need to be treated/ tested etc.
http://www.frogforum.net/general-dis...uarantine.html
He could be ill or be bullied by another frog.
Substrate in the QT can be plain / flat/ well dampened paper towel ( w de-chlorinated water)
Personal, I would NOT use the cleaner... use plain distilled water and paper towel to wipe down the tanks.
( this is another whole can-of-worms ) The frogs are very sensitive ; they absorb chemicals through their skin
2- I'm not sure about "UK" water...but ALL water in the US must be de-chlorinated w/ an amphibian safe de-chlorinater
( tap water set aside still has chemical that are not removed by setting it aside and can eventually make the frog ill )
3-distilled water can be used for misting ( not the frogs )and maintaining humidity levels
Care sheet for your TWO species

http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...caresheet.html
Mixing species is never a good idea. A simple search here or on the internet will yield consistent answers as to why this should NOT be done.
Proper husbandry should include a separate enclosure for your greens and one for your gray. Your little guy can be returned to the "green " enclosure after his stay in the QT enclosure.
Feeding...give him a few more days in the QT. If he does not start to eat...you may have to force feed him.
While alone, you will be able to closely monitor the food intake.

Hi thank you very much for your replies and all the information, I put him in the QT and did everything suggested. He didn't eat all weekend so today I tried to force feed him but he just flipped himself over. I turned him back over and left him to settle down. I went out for an hour and when I returned he was on his back again and had passed away. I don't know what caused this problem, it was as if he had switched off, he was behaving very strange and I hope I did everything I could and can only hope my other frogs are healthy and happy. thanks again for all your help. best wishes Nikki R
Hi Nikki,
I am so sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
RJ
Hi me again, I have now lost my other green tree frog. Im so upset, I don't know if it was my fault. He died much quicker than the other one. His tummy got large, his legs flared out and he was very wide eyed. It indicates that he had dropsy so I put him in QT with a little water yesterday evening, and freshened up the water this morning keeping a close eye on him, he flipped over a couple of times and then died. Any ideas anyone cos I really don't want this to happen again. I have a Grey which seems fine but don't wont to get anymore frogs until I can be sure I did everything I could to prevent this from happening again!
Interesting comment thank you. What would I do otherwise, I don't know how else to de-chlorinate water?
There are water conditioners you can add to water to remove chlorine/chloramine. Not sure what brands are available in the UK. Maybe other forum members could suggest something?
Hi Nikki,
Below is a link to a UK-based website. I have linked directly to the page that sells water conditioners. You simply add it to your tap water as instructed, and it will remove chlorine, and heavy metals. If this was indeed the problem, the water conditioner should help solve it.

Again, I am very sorry for your loss.
All the best...
RJ
Yes you should use conditioner for your water or bottled spring water. And sorry for your loss
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Hi Nikki,
Any updates? How is your Gray doing?
Hoping for the best...
RJ
