Thanks, Eli! I am stil not sure if Fortuna is male or female. They are the same size now though, if not for Tarrazu's white spots, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart lol

I hope she's a female. That way you can breed later on if you choose. plus you wont have to change her name Im still not entirely sure that Agnes is a female. Only way to tell 100% is to either breed or cut her open. Neither of which i plan to do

Females tend to be noticeably larger than the males, by a goo 1/2" in length or more. I am no expert at sexing Reds. I have 5 of them and couldn't tell you which are males or females yet lol.

They did heal well! The last two weeks has been the most improvement. I honestly thought Fortuna would have a scar for a long time, if not forever. I would love to eventually breed, I would like another, unrelated red eye in there preferably.

Tarrazu is not only noisy, but has a pad on his thumb. I'm unsure if Fortuna is part of the noise, but definitely no thumb pad. They are both 2 inches, Tarrazu started at 1.75" and Fortuna at 1.25".

Maybe they are all female...all five of them. Or maybe they call when you leave. Or maybe they just don't like you... Odds are theres at least ONE male in your group with 5 frogs

They are in the basement, Paul! If mine weren't in my bedroom, waking me up, I doubt I would hear the random calls. Last night we had some major storms move through, and between Tarrazu, my grey, atlas, and the thunder, I got no sleep! It was a noisy night in my house.

I am sure they hate me, but that aside. I am fairly certain 3 are female (they are all the same size). I have another that MIGHT be a male, but no calling. the 5th one is the smallest of all by far. He is usually found sitting on vine and watching the other frogs. He is a good 1/2 - 3/4 inch smaller.

I keep saying.. they are less than a year old... well 2 of them are for sure. Be Patient... but I want them to call lol

I have no idea how old mine are really. When I ordered them, I specifically asked how long out of the water they were. They said about 2 months. There must have been a mix up there, because Tarrazu was calling after a week at home, although he was still growing. Tarrazu was calling around 7 am this morning, I went to peek at him and he instantly went silent and then closed his eyes. They don't like to be bugged while they're playing. I've been trying to catch a recording, but his calling is so random, and as soon as I make any movement, he stops.

I think I have played yours for them, but I will happily play it again and again. I checked on them just after diner tonight and caught one of them shedding by the front glass. She seemed annoyed when my phone came out for pictures so I left lol.

Ok Amy I am done hijacking your thread for now.

A few pics, some older some newer. Just got around to putting them on the computer from my camera and signing them.

The orchid is popular...this pic leaves me wondering if I should have named them Yin and Yang LOL Fortuna is on the top leaf, Tarrazu on the lower leaf.

Still no confirmed calling from Fortuna. The excessively noisy night may have just been Tarrazu. Tarrazu has seemed to stop growing at just over 2 inches...that seems to be normal size for a male? Fortuna has caught up to Tarrazu in size, I will see if (s)he keeps growing or not.

Both eat very well, Tarrazu is less shy around me. Fortuna freezes, but Tarrazu has no issue lunging for food as I pour crickets into the bowl. Still feeding them small crickets even though I think they could handle something a little bigger now, they are happy though, so I'm not changing anything.

    Excellent Pics Amy!

We switched our reds to larger crickets a while ago, they still ate good, but seemed less excited to dive into a bowl full of medium crickets than they did small crickets so we switched them back to smalls.

I hope Fortuna is a female for you!

Default Re: Pics of my Red-Eyed Leaf Frog's

It would be nice to get a pair right off the bat. I would like to eventually get another one when I upgrade their viv, possibly an albino or a lutino. I just looked at ordering a 24x18x24 exo today. My local pet store has them on sale for $150 until next week. I figure I could get that now and slowly build it over the next several months so that I'm not putting too much money in at once. I am no longer comfortable with a 20h for them long term. I would like something taller and something that I can fit more plants in. Then I'd convert the 20h to the orchid tank that I want

As for the crickets, I'm so afraid of them going on a food strike, that I figure no changes are the best. They are good eaters right now and I don't want to mess that up. I would really like to attempt some roaches, but with my roach allergy and landlords that I'd have to hide them from, I'm not sure it's worth it. They have not even consented for my daughter to have ONE hissing cockroach, so I doubt a colony of dubias is in my future.

ETA I did order a 50 count of small dubias with the red eyes, they didn't eat them anyway, but I would have liked to try again!

You guys have seriously been so helpful though. I read a bazillion care sheets before getting my red eyes, read observation journals of wild red eyes, basically anything I could come across. The most knowledge I gained came from everyone here though. I don't think my frogs would be nearly as healthy or growing as well as they have without the info I got on here. One day I even wrote down the different temps/humidity each care sheet suggested. Out of 15 care sheets, not one was the same. I'd be lost without experienced keepers on my side!
