Females tend to be noticeably larger than the males, by a goo 1/2" in length or more. I am no expert at sexing Reds. I have 5 of them and couldn't tell you which are males or females yet lol.

I think I have played yours for them, but I will happily play it again and again. I checked on them just after diner tonight and caught one of them shedding by the front glass. She seemed annoyed when my phone came out for pictures so I left lol.

Ok Amy I am done hijacking your thread for now.

A few pics, some older some newer. Just got around to putting them on the computer from my camera and signing them.

The orchid is popular...this pic leaves me wondering if I should have named them Yin and Yang LOL Fortuna is on the top leaf, Tarrazu on the lower leaf.

Still no confirmed calling from Fortuna. The excessively noisy night may have just been Tarrazu. Tarrazu has seemed to stop growing at just over 2 inches...that seems to be normal size for a male? Fortuna has caught up to Tarrazu in size, I will see if (s)he keeps growing or not.

Both eat very well, Tarrazu is less shy around me. Fortuna freezes, but Tarrazu has no issue lunging for food as I pour crickets into the bowl. Still feeding them small crickets even though I think they could handle something a little bigger now, they are happy though, so I'm not changing anything.

    Excellent Pics Amy!

We switched our reds to larger crickets a while ago, they still ate good, but seemed less excited to dive into a bowl full of medium crickets than they did small crickets so we switched them back to smalls.

I hope Fortuna is a female for you!

Default Re: Pics of my Red-Eyed Leaf Frog's

It would be nice to get a pair right off the bat. I would like to eventually get another one when I upgrade their viv, possibly an albino or a lutino. I just looked at ordering a 24x18x24 exo today. My local pet store has them on sale for $150 until next week. I figure I could get that now and slowly build it over the next several months so that I'm not putting too much money in at once. I am no longer comfortable with a 20h for them long term. I would like something taller and something that I can fit more plants in. Then I'd convert the 20h to the orchid tank that I want

As for the crickets, I'm so afraid of them going on a food strike, that I figure no changes are the best. They are good eaters right now and I don't want to mess that up. I would really like to attempt some roaches, but with my roach allergy and landlords that I'd have to hide them from, I'm not sure it's worth it. They have not even consented for my daughter to have ONE hissing cockroach, so I doubt a colony of dubias is in my future.

ETA I did order a 50 count of small dubias with the red eyes, they didn't eat them anyway, but I would have liked to try again!

You guys have seriously been so helpful though. I read a bazillion care sheets before getting my red eyes, read observation journals of wild red eyes, basically anything I could come across. The most knowledge I gained came from everyone here though. I don't think my frogs would be nearly as healthy or growing as well as they have without the info I got on here. One day I even wrote down the different temps/humidity each care sheet suggested. Out of 15 care sheets, not one was the same. I'd be lost without experienced keepers on my side!

Thanks, Heather! Tarrazu is so funny, he will dive at the crickets as I dump them from the dusting bag into the bowl. Fortuna is still a little less comfortable, which surprises me because she was the bold one at first. She tends to hide away more and usually closes her eyes and tucks in as soon as she sees me. I think she/he sees me as more of a threat where Tarrazu sees me as a food source.

Lol! They definitely have their own personalities . I have 5. To this day Cassandra only likes my husband. She actually turns away from me. I guess she doesn't remember I saved her life . Feisty. She is named after the old Queen Cassandra... Feisty and ruling, ha ha. She's so pretty though. I love her anyway. Lucky is very outgoing. He'll actually chirp back and you if you making clicking sounds. He's our people-watcher. He seems to be intrigued by us humans. Callie and Serena are mor laid back and somewhat shy. They don't mind me in the tank, but they tend to just sit there and look at me. Hector is outgoing also. He's like the guardian of the tank.

I saw!! Thank you I love the FF FB page and all the great photos you guys share.

I never imagined they would have such big personalities. I will have to try clicking at Tarrazu and see what he does. Atlas, my grey, responds to my kids "chirping" at him, so it would be fun if we could get Tarrazu to respond also!

I bet you can . May take some time to get comfy with their adopted human Mom, but it's likely.

I talk all silly stupid to mine, lol . I'm not sure if they're responding back or just yelling at me to stop. Ha ha!

Jury is still out on whether Fortuna is a male or female, (s)he is now 2.5 inches when I measured tonight. Lots of growing in the last month. Tarrazu is up to 2 1/4 inches but he was 2 inches a month ago, Fortuna was also 2 inches a month ago and has passed him up by 1/4 inch now! Fortuna was 1.25 inches when I got them, so (s)he has doubled in size since June. Tarrazu was 1.75 inches when I got him, so he has grown a half inch.
