Default My WTF doesnt look too good

I'm a fairly new Whites Tree Frog owner, had my 2 for about 4 months. My youngest frog Penelope has just started getting a really swollen throat and I'm not sure if I should be wortied or if it's just one of them weird things frogs do. Here is a picture of her that I have just taken (sorry for bad quality and lighting but I didn't want to disturb her)imgur: the simple image sharer

And this is a picture of her from when she was normal with my other frog Toby (she's the smaller one on the top) imgur: the simple image sharer

Any advice would be wonderful! I keep them both in a small, tall exoterra at the moment (have a medium tall exoterra for when they're slightly bigger) clean their water daily, temp is at an average of 25℃ and humidity is at 40% spray them twice a day) I also feed them about 7 or 8 medium dusted crickets every couple of days. Not sure if there's anything else you'd need to know but all help is greatly appreciated.

    Thankyou for reading!

P.s. sorry if i posted this in the wrong place, not sure how to work this website yet :s

    Hello,

    Welcome to Frog Forum.
Yes, this is the right place to post this thread.

    I have a few questions

    How old is he?
How big is he...from the tip of the to vent ( his bum)
Is the 'puffy' anywhere else on his body?
Most importantly---does this ever disappear ?
    Have you heard him call?

Although ( it's hard to tell from the photo) the "puffed" area looks to be a bit too close to his mouth to be an inflated vocal sac ( of which is used for calling )? Try to post another photo, if you can.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=call...h=817&dpr=0.75

Take a very close look at him to be sure you do't see any break in the skin neat the area to 'rule-out' any kind of access.
Do you see any redness in the area?
If he is eating and otherwise acting his normal little self, then the latter is unlikely?

Sometimes after calling the throat can remain 'puffed'.
Listen very carefully ( after lights out ) for calling. Sit there in the dark. When they first start it's "little" until they get the hang of it. When they begin to call it will be less often and not as loud as a more mature male.

What are the temps and humidity in the enclosure?
What are you treating their water with--------or what kind of water are you putting in their soaking dish?

Thank you for replying so quickly!

How old is he? - nearly 5 months
How big is he...from the tip of the to vent ( his bum) - 2 inches
Is the 'puffy' anywhere else on his body? - No just this 1 place
Most importantly---does this ever disappear ? - not sure what you mean, if you mean the puffiness then this is the first time i've seen it. Never seen it on my other one Toby, but then again Toby never makes a sound.
Have you heard him call? - yes. Calls at different intervals through the night and verrrrrry loudly for about 10 seconds

(both my frogs are too young to sex so i just gave them names i liked, i don't know 100% if Penelope is a boy or girl but i'm guessing boy since i've read everywhere that mainly it's the boys who croak so might have to switch Toby and Penelope's names around )

Sorry about the bad quality photo, was trying not to disturb him/her too much by turning my lights on or anything, here's another one 2 took last night (sorry about the darkenss, doesnt hep that she was brown at the time) http://i.imgur.com/c3tcMH4.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yx2RUPV.jpg my froggies are sleeping at the moment and they sleep all squashed up behind my foam background (the one you get with exoterra terrariums) so it's hard to get another picture until they wake up.

I couldn't tell any redness at all and Penelope was just jumping around her home as usual. She was a little more energetic than she usually is at that time but apart from that there's been no behavioural changes. Both of my frogs change from being a bright green colour to a dark brown as well

What are the temps and humidity in the enclosure? - Temperature is always 25°C give or take 1 or 2° and their humidity i try and keep between the 40 and 50 mark on the little stick on exoterra hydrometer
What are you treating their water with - Their water is treat with Aquatize conditioner (1 or 2 drops per L of water) and it's changed every day

I've been doing some research about what it could be and some websites say it could be irritation from calling so much? Not sure if this could be the case but it would make sense considering Penelope is so small but his/her calls are very loud

Even thought the pics are dark, it appears your "she" is a "he". Their vocal sac will stretch after they start calling and it will have a pinkish tint to it.

Will a 5 month old whites call already? I thought it was closer to 10-12 months that they start calling.

Unless you got the frog directly from the breeder, it's doubtful that the info was accurate.

Tiny, but not a few weeks old in that picture, more like a few months out of the water. Looks to be just about an inch in that picture (and very skinny.) Chances are pretty good your frog is more 8-10 months now

Yeah I got them both from a pet shop so I just kinda took their word for it haha, thankyou all for being so helpful my frog has just got up and it seems the swelling has gone down so it must have just been from him calling so much!

No problem. Just think, it's gonna get worse (louder, much much louder) as he gets older!! Lol

Is he eating well? Pooping? Acting otherwise normal? Have you noticed the puffed throat only when he's awake? And does it flatten/shrink down when he's asleep?

The photos are hard for me to see well.

Your beautiful Penelope is a handsome Peter . She's a darling "he".

If he is behaving normally with no red or irritated skin, the throat shrinks down when not calling/croaking, no diarrhea, eating and pooping well, waking at night and napping during the day, climbing well and without clumsiness he sounds healthy.

A clearer photo will help to be sure. One at night while sleeping. Especially one of his underside while sleeping. And another while puffed.

Hello and welcome to FF ! Temperature you have is a bit low. Recommend raise day temps to 27C and provide a 30C basking spot. More information on their care and needs in here: Frog Forum - White's Tree Frog Care - Litoria caerulea.

Sorry can't comment on swollen area, pics are too dark for my old eyes . If you frog is croaking, it's a boy !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

    Only males call.
Yes !!! It seems you have a male
As mentioned the vocal sac can stay inflated!
If so, HE is likely older than 5 months.
