Default viv change & stressed grey

On the 14-15th I moved my greys back into their viv after redoing it. They were all stressed at first, but after a few days all seemed settle in without a problem. Two nights in a row now, willow, has been acting strange. She keeps going to the highest point of the tank and jumping at the light. Then she falls to the ground or into the pond. Even after I turn off the light, she does this over and over. Last night, I hand fed her two crickets and she calmed down, but tonight is right back to it.

Humidity and temps are stable but they did both rise last week for a day before I got the a/c going. That was about 5 days ago though. She appears healthy and happily ate from my hand like the glutton she is. Any input? Will get some pics later tonight and fill out the trouble in the enclosure, have some wicked tendinitis going on in my shoulder right now, so typing is difficult, even on my phone.

I think I figured ot out on my own. Duh. Two nights ago, I decided to let them hunt instead of bowl feeding like I usually do. Hand fed her a med cricket again tonight and she went back to sleep.

On a side note...Anyone else think that she is possibly a "he" sans the chirping. We actually named her "Oscar" when we first got her because I was sure she was male. She has never once chirped though.

My frogs get kinda jumpy too after "the hunt". I usually hand feed them but when they hunt they will try to eat anything that moves. Even some stuff that doesn't

Yeah, not sure she got enough as she's not very aggressive. Haven't let them hunt anything other than escapees in 2 years now. My daughter thinks it's because I had an upside down bowl on top of the tank. Lol

If it was the upside down bowl that is pretty funny. Shows that frogs have some intelligence..... only some lol!

I was actually using the bowl to lift the hood a bit, I think Atlas rests too close to the light. I will figure out an alternative though and see if that settles her down.

She's all stressed out again tonight. I noticed the behavior started after I misted the viv tonight. She is the only one that is restless. The other 3 are perfectly comfortable. Not sure how to help because I have no idea what her problem is. She isn't jumping towards the light like the last two nights, but on a constant prowl for escape. When I open the top, she climbs right out.

Hmm interesting. She does seemed to be stressed about something. Just some things to try .... Full disclosure - I am not a professional lol.

    1. Try misting the tank earlier so you frogs are still asleep. This might help reduce her stress overall and maybe help you see what is actually bothering her....
    2. Cover all sides of the tank except one. You can use something as simple as paper or you could paint the sides of the tank. This will help all the frogs feel more secure.
    3. When I observe our frogs I find that if I sit in front of the tank and don't more to much they will eventually get use to be being there and will go about their normal business. It is the sudden movements we humans make that can trigger them to freak out. This might help you observe her (and them) without unintentionally causing them more stress.

Did something get removed from the tank that maybe she used all the time? I may be giving frogs to much credit, but they seem to pick a plant or rock or something that is "theirs" and use it all the time.....

I typically mist right after work, around 6 pm, tonight was a touch delayed but they were all still asleep initially. I have all the same branches that were in there. Took out a piece I built to hold the water dish, but she never hung out there anyway. I did take out the gardenia that she sat on now and then, it was dead and had only been in there a couple of months. I'm not sure how she really could have gotten attached to that in the short time.I will cover the walls in the morning right now it is dark and quiet, nothing should stress her out right now.

also, the feeding bowl hasn't been in there in almost a week, she did enjoy using that to bask, they all did. again though, that wasn't a permanent fixture in the tank. I took it out to wash it after they ate all the crickets out of it.

Eta- I will go back to their normal bowl feeding routine tomorrow, maybe that will help her.

Amy, it really does show how much you love and care for your frogs when you are putting so much energy into trying to get her to be comfortable in her home again! Let me/us know how the next round of changes go. Hopefully she will calm down for you soon.

I will keep you updated. I do love my froggers! It really stresses me out that she is stressed out. I tend to overreact sometimes I think when something is "off" with them. After the fiasco with the spring peepers though (lost all 7 in three days after raising them successfully from tiny newly morphed froglets for over a year) I'm just very sensitive to any changes in my frogs. I will keep you updated on what happens.

    Thanks for the ideas, Paul.

I did cover 2 more sides, so 5/6 sides are now covered. I misted around 6 pm like usual last night, waited for her crazy antics to start, and they never did. I did see her hanging out in the same spot the last few days between her stress out times, so maybe she's found her "place" in the tank and with the help of covering more sides, she'll settle in.
