    Default My Viv Progress..

I just wanted to share my dart frog viv. This is my first vivarium and I am fairly excited about the progress. I am going to wait a few weeks before I add any frogs. What's the longest time you all waited? Thank you all for being so helpful!

Lovely!! I have had one viv running for just over a month with nothing in it yet, but I think 30 days would be sufficient.

Looks good! Any new frog should be put into a temp tank (could be just a simple plastic tub) for a 30 day quarantine. This will also allow the plants in your tank time to acclimate and any micro fauna you put in the soil time to establish themselves.

but outside of that 2 - 3 weeks is a good time for most plants to settle in.

Also it is common for white mold to appear shortly after a new tank is setup. This can take up to a week to clear up and is completely normal.

Thank you both!! I think I will get a temp tank tomorrow, should I set it up like a miniature version of the full size Paul?

Looks good! Nice job! The longest I waited before adding frogs was 2 months. I let the steam punk tank grow for 3 months before I added frogs. But that was because I was waiting for a specific reptile show. But I utilized that time to train my plants.

The qt tank can be as simple as paper towel substrate, a water dish and a few plant clippings. They only need requirements like food, water, humidity and cover met while in qt.

I always go super simple for the QT tank. I bought a cheap Rubbermaid container and punched holes in the lid. Put a couple paper towels (the kind with no prints on them) in the bottom and soaked them in treated tap water. A small 3" pot with some pothos clippings in them with a heat source. The great thing about going simple (paper towels substrate) is that you can easily tell if the frog is pooping regularly. You do need to change the paper towels daily to ensure the frog is in a clean environment, but totally worth it.

Here is what mine looked like front he outside and then a top down view of one of them. Super simple. Not pretty, but functional lol.

The Red eye tree frogs that were in this to QT tanks lived in there for nearly 3 months while we waited for them to get big enough to move in with the other Reds we own. Just as an example how long they can remain in a simple setup like that.

I really appreciate the help!! Thanks Bill, I will one day be as good as you all with builds! I may have to start a "Support the Addiction to Frogs" foundation, but I can see myself getting as bad with this hobby as I am with fish!!! I really am grateful for the support on this board!
