Im getting a 36x18x36 exo terra for some red eyes soon. Im looking for some ideas, I want this tank to be drop dead amazing. fully planted with a water feature. any thoughts on a drip wall? Any good advice for starting out? This is going to be my first vivarium build. ive done a lot of research on the subject but just haven't been able to find any good posts/pics/videos on how to construct the drip system into a background and what not.
A drip wall is simple. You need to build a false bottom, add a pump, run tubing to the too of the tank, then run the tubing across the top of the drip wall, cap or plug the end, then make holes in the tubing. You can also do the same with the output pipe of a canister filter if you decide to go that route. Simple
Advice for starting out? Absolutely, for a first build, don't expect drop dead amazing. Expect plant survival. Hope for frog happiness. Don't let any mishaps bother you, expect some failure. I know that sounds harsh, but it's 100% true. Read through as many build journals as you can, and arm yourself with the best tool you can have in your tool box: knowledge.

Bill is 100% right! FF is an amazing resource! Read read read and then start a thread and ask questions. You will get lots of very helpful criticism that will save you heartache. I have been trying to start my big exo build for almost a year now. Every time I get started, life throws a curve ball and it gets put on back burner. So I'll be building right along with you. So best of luck!
PS You already have one of my fave viv builders helping you out! Bill is an awesome resource to all things technical, plant life and conducting the near impossible lol! Heatheranne and Flybyferns (Lynn) are our go to moderators for all things RETF related.
On that note, first question... you stated above that this is your first viv build? Are these going to be your first frogs? And where are you getting them from?
Best of luck!
Lisa

Bill is so right. You will have some things not work out right in the build. You have to be willing to rip things apart and try again, or abandon the feature all together for this build and move on. Builds are my favorite part of this hobby lol. Def start a thread and post questions, updates, and lots of pictures. Everyone here is great and adding their 2 cents when needed![]()
