Default Turning My Anger Into Something Productive

Today was a disaster! I'm so mad haha! I was out and about to get my female GBB tarantula but apparently it didn't turn out the way i wanted it to be.

I didn't wanna go home empty-handed so i got this 4" female Golden-knee tarantula (Grammostola pulchripes) instead. I named her Chaka Khan so that the name is somewhat related to this spider's other nickname Chaco.

    P.S.

Dear GBB, i will have you. Please know that. Yours truly your future owner and stalker.

Thanks! You think so? Hmm well her color does look a bit 'dusty' or ash gray than the ones in google so that might be the case. Who knows!

Judging from what i read from other US/EU keepers, the genus Avicularia seems to be the perfect choice for beginners. They require moderate-high humidity that i know you can easily provide. In the wild they even inhabit bromeliad cups

Keep me updated if you do get one. I've never had an arboreal tarantula (i am eyeing on a couple of sp.) And i'm excited to see how you'll perk up its enclosure

Avicularia are fun to keep for sure. And really docile. They build some really cool funnel webs and don't get to big. A. Versicolor are stunning when they get their adult colors. I gave all my avicularia to a friend because my g/f couldn't handle sleeping in the same house with them. Funny, she stuck around though after waking up more then once with a snake in the bed and being bit in her sleep.

I honestly think you have a much better spider. IMO the chaco is the perfect spider all around. They get very big. They are very docile and easy to handle. They are extremely easy to care for. They don't flick hairs (I never had one that did anyway.) They are very pretty. They are relatively inexpensive. They display nicely. When compared with a similar GBB (4" female) which doesn't get nearly as big. Are generally not very docile or at least are rather skittish and don't tolerate handling nearly as well. Are not quite as easy to keep (in my experience but not difficult either.) They have more of a tendency to flick hairs (again, in my experience.) They are very pretty I have to admit (though personally I think the chaco is prettier.) They are usually more expensive. Mine have all had a tendency to hide much more than any chaco I have ever had.

GBBs are nice spiders but I am confident that you will never regret your purchase of your Chaco. Besides, look on the bright side. You are still dead set on getting a GBB so pretty soon you will have 2 tarantulas. Had you gotten the GBB right away you may have stopped there (though I doubt it, they are like potato chips, you can have just one)

I just had my 6" female chaco pass away about a month ago and I am looking for another. I've got a male that is due to mature soon and I was hoping to pair them up.

As for the arboreals go with an Avic. The pink toes are cheap but the versicolors are well worth the extra money

    Good luck with yours.
