Default My new, absolutely adorable, RETF's

After all that drama, my RETF's arrived safe and sound about an hour ago Needless to say, I'm not sure I would ever have an animal shipped, that was very stressful when they told me I would have to wait until tomorrow morning to get my package. When I told them it was live amphibians, they connected me to my local hub and she got the package to me. I don't intend to buy anymore frogs for quite some time now, but next time I do, I will wait until the spring expo even if it means waiting 11 months LOL

I'm going to post this thread and then edit to add pictures to it because the pics are on my phone and it's much easier to type on a computer.

They are a cross of albino and standard RETF's. Ordered them from LLLReptile. I'm in love with them already! Don't worry, my hands were washed and I only had them on my finger long enough to snap a picture and move them to the critter keeper. Unfortunately forgot my gloves at home so had to make clean hands work.

The first little guy I took out was trying to get out as soon as I opened the box. He/she has a pretty bad nose rub but otherwise seems healthy. This one is the smaller of the two at about 1 1/4." Should I put some neosporin on the nose rub when we get home? This guy will not settle down. Hopping all over the keeper and seems stressed. Moved the keeper from my office to the neighboring office which is unoccupied, dark, and quiet.

Next little guy is about 1 1/2-1 3/4"s. This one is calmer, and I wasn't even sure if he/she was going to be alive when I opened the container. Definitely alive, a small, minor, nose rub that I didn't even notice until he went to sleep and the color changed. Color has already improved hugely from this picture and he is sound asleep.

Have left them alone now in the other office now. Hopefully the little one can settle down a bit!

They are so cute! I am glad it all worked out and they delivered them to you! Sorry you had so much drama surrounding the delivery. I feel more fortunate now that I haven't had that sort of stress with an online order yet..

I will leave the Neosporin question to the experts. If you do end up applying it I would do it while they are sleeping so hopefully they won't get to stressed by it.

    They look very healthy!

Thanks Paul . They do look fairly healthy. One has yet to wake up while the other has hardly slept. I put 6 small dubias that I had shipped with them in there and will count them in the morning. I hear one awake now but it's likely the little one.

Anyone have input regarding the nose rubs? The one on the bigger frog is dark almost black, you can see the rub on the little guy in the pics. If no one has any thoughts there, I will just do it in the morning.

Don't be surprised if they sleep for a day or more before they star moving around and eating. Each frog handle the shipping differently.

I would contact LLL and let them know about the nose rub they each have. Just inc ace it ends up being a major issue than they know about it as soon as possible after delivery.

Wish I could offer help with the nose rub. if no one responds soon I will try and help grab the attention of people who can help

I remember when we got each of our 5 reds. We had one that kept for nearly 3 days before it finally decided it was safe to get up and move around. That one is still a little skittish. If we move by the tank at night he/she hunkers down and closes its eyes lol. So cute

    Cuties!

Nose rubs - flamazine would work the best, but neosporin without painkillers is ok. But really, i would wait a bit, it may get better, just watch it, it is better then stress out them even more

I do have some SSD if it comes down to needing it. I bought it from the vet when I rescued Atlas, but never needed it as he didn't have any open wounds, just severe dehydration and undernourished.

No one ate yet last night despite a lot of activity. I still have small roaches in there but they do not move much so I may put some small crickets in tonight instead.

    I agree w Lija,
Treating the nose is tricky, because it's so close to their eyes.
Remember, the skin will look darker as it it heals.
It may take months, and months to completely disappear.
    Their may be a scar?

Enjoy them.... I'm glad you have them in your care, Amy

Thanks Heather, Carlos and Lynn . They are both doing really well. Both are active and eating every night. The nose rubs haven't changed much, so I'm just keeping an eye on them yet. I haven't gotten more pictures because I do not want to bother them.

I'm just glad it turned out as well as it did, I'm very aware now of how easily something could have happened and I would have been opening a box of dead frogs rather than the healthy cuties I have.

Pics this morning of nose rubs. I notice a slight improvement. The neon green they turn during the day is awesome. There is no filter or enhancements done on those pics, that's their actual coloring.

Hi Amy! Just read your thread and feel sad for those cuties . Understand your shipping woes; it got so bad with fish a decade ago, the shippers stopped labeling boxes with "live fish" warnings because the boxes got a worse treatment then. As far as I know FEDEX next day AM delivery to hub is the best when shipment of live animals is involved.

How are these guys doing? Did they eat for you? Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Usually turns gray, May or may not slough off. Nice blue skin underneath. Callie's scar are just now turning more green. They were blue for a couple years. Pretty though. I think they're scars are distinguishing. It's a pretty blue.

The nose rubs are small so I think you'll barely notice once they fill in.

There is a lot of improvement with the little guys nose rub just overnight again. The scars will not bother me if they end up with any. I was more nervous about potential infection than anything.

Eta...I'm surprised by how early they wake up. There are nights I go in my bedroom and they are awake at 830pm, my bedroom is mostly dark by then but not pitch black. They also do not seem to mind the glow of my phone, they are hopping around eating. 4 crickets and 2 dubias are gone already and I just fed them about a half hour ago. A little later than usual tonight.

LoL Awesome! So happy they are doing good!

Our 5 wake up like clock work around 7:00PM and devour the crickets in the bowl. I just checked on them and 4 of the 5 are soaking their butts in the water bowl and the 5th has climbed onto a plant and made it lean over the water bowl and is looking down on them all lol.

Funny!! I have pothos leaves in the water dish right now. Last night, the little guy was holding the stem of the pothos leaf while the big guy sat on the leaf. It looked like they were going for a gongola ride. Interesting to have a more social frog. My Greys tend to claim their own spaces and stay as far from each other as possible.
