Default New babies will be here in about 13 hours....

I have never had a frog shipped to me before to know what's best to do immediately after I get them. Getting two Red-Eyed Leaf Frog's that are 2 months out of the water (1"-1 1/4") A friend told me to do a pedialyte soak as soon as they get delivered, is that necessary? Do I offer them food right away?

I have a large critter keeper set up and ready to go for them until I get them home to the ten gal quarantine tank. Would it be better to keep them at my office until Friday to give them a couple days to recover from the stress of transportation, or get it all over with in one day? It's only about a 15 min drive but my car has no a/c and Friday should be cooler also.

Large size critter keeper with leaves hanging from the top, dish for food and water, branch, reptile carpet covered with unprinted paper towel, and a few more leaves on the floor. 3 sides covered.

I wouldn't do a soak. It will just add to the stress they are already under. When they arrive move them into the critter keeper. I would take them home that same day and get them in a more permanent QT setup for at least 30 days. This will allow them to relax and get use to your environment.

They won't eat for a few days typically, but it is always a good idea to have food present for them at all times. Reds only feed at night so just before lights out put 2 - 4 small (no bigger than the length between the frogs eye) in the tank per frog. I fed my baby reds from a bowl. It took them a day or 2 to get use to it, but it allows you to see how many they ate in the morning and removes the odd cricket left alive in the QT tank. Crickets can and will bite your frogs and that is never a good thing. Per usual it is super important to dust their food with vitamin and calcium. I do a Mon, Wed, Fri dusting with Calcium w/D3 and Sat we dust with Multi Vitamins.

In Short - Get all the moving and stress over with as quickly as you can and then get them on a good steady routine.

Oh and I would love to see pics of your new little friends when they arrive! please

Thanks Paul! I will post pics right away . I was planning to bowl feed for monitoring food intake. Much more peace of mind knowing exactly what they've eaten.

I was worried the soak would add stress also, figured it was better just to make sure they have a water dish ready instead.

I'm very excited to get these babies tomorrow!

Getting new frogs is always exciting! Who did you end up ordering them from?

I always love getting new frogs. Perfect excuse to hold them for a few seconds before you put them in their new home

Sorry to spell all the stuff I do out. I know you know what to do, I just try to be over the top with info for others that may be reading and have the same question you did

No, that's perfect. I may ask a mod to change the title to something more "searchable," didn't think about it when I first started the thread.

Ordered them from lllreptile. They seem to be knowledgeable about what they're selling and answered all my questions with patience and fairly quickly over the last few weeks. So I'm confident things will go well (at least as far as what they have control over.)

I haven't told my kids they're coming yet and don't think I will until they've had time to adjust. The kids don't stay up late and the quarantine tank is in a room they do not use, so they wont have their faces pressed to the glass stressing the new babies out. They're very respectful of my frogs, but who can resist peeking at new babies?

    LoL Awesome!

I have bought 2 Red Eyes from them and 5 Mantella Betsileo. All my frogs arrived alive, healthy, and safely
