Hi all,
I'm looking into a set up for D.Azures (I think their spelt) as I really like their colour personally, and read that the are one of the advised for people new to darts. I currently have a 90cmx45cmx45cm exo which I will be setting up for them (all modified before adding frogs). I would like to have a filter as to create a running water system, a fogger and a rain system (I know they don't require all of them but will have them on timers at different stages of the day) also I'd like to be adding small amounts of fresh clean water via these methods and regularly removing older water. I aim to make the whole set up myself and would like a little (very shallow) pond as to keep an eye on the water table. At the minute I'm fishing for help on the best substrates and false bottom layers that will help achieve my ideas I know there are several that are usually recommended but wanted a seasoned keepers opinions on such as to what they recommended will be the best options for the frogs and plants a like. I have done a lot of reading but still can't decide where to start lol
Thanks for any help

If you want advice on a Dart frog home and new build I would consult Bill, his screen name is deranged chipmunk. He is a pro at custom builds and will be able to offer the best course of action to take for everything you have mentioned. I will give you a link to his page so you can PM him. I asked him to help me with ideas and advice on my half land half water build for my leopard frogs. He was amazing and very nice. I am sure he can help you as well. Good luck with your new build and new babies! Don't forget to post pics of the little guys when you get them set up! I know I for one can't wait to see them. I want to add a pair of Darts to my collection some time in the future, but I have to get my breeding colony of wood roaches and crickets stable first before I can start trying to breed flightless fruit flys too, lol. Though I am going to have to do the breeding colony anyway for my new tree frog tadpoles, lol. Here is Bill's link, send him a PM and I am sure he would be happy to help you out with your build! Good luck and can't wait to see pics! Best Wishes; MsBlueRose

My suggestion is to start with something simple, maybe a false bottom set-up with a water feature, before you try to integrate multiple water/humidity systems in one enclosure. My preferred false bottom material is egg crate plastic due to it's light weight when compared to others like clay balls. No matter which substrate you decide on, do ensure all soil is above the max water level to prevent it from becoming a bog. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
