ok so i have a planted exo terra 12x12x18 tank it has no animals currently and underneath a wood hide it was soaked and i noticed it had spots of green/blueish mold underneath it, is it bad what do i do plz help.
Mold growth is natural in new tanks If you have isopods and springtails they will love the mold! Either way the mold will subside soon, no need to worry I hope this helps!
What kind of tank is it? Is it a dart frog tank? Also, do you have a false bottom to allow water to drain? I would just leave it if your tank has been set up for a few days. The mold is just a natural process in cycling a tank. I hope this helps!
How long has the tank been set up? I would highly consider redoing the tank and adding a false bottom so your cage doesn't end up stinking really bad, especially since you are thinking of getting reed frogs which need more water if possible. You will not regret a false bottom in your tank trust me! I hope this helps!
In a tank this small, I would maybe put a dart frog or 2 and MAYBE 1 tree frog or possibly a reed frog but reed frogs need more water than land from what I understand. I hope this helps!
They might climb on the glass some, but because they are a terrestrial species they will stay mostly on the ground. I would stick with a single red eyed tree frog if I were you. I hope this helps!
No problem, glad I could help!
1) the mold will take up to a month to cycle. Some won't ever go away. Taking the wood out and drying it will not help, it will just come back. It's natural, so no real need to worry about it.
2) you really should have decided what kind of frog to live in there before building, that way you can build to suit the frog's needs. But since you are built, there are a few species you can keep in there. Keep in mind it is a tiny tank, so choices become even more limited. A pair of thumbnail darts should be ok, but I wouldn't put more than 2 in there. They may be small, but they prefer territory. Some are terrestrial, but most tend to climb, so yes, they will climb the glass. As far as tree frogs, a solitary American green tree frog could live it's life in there comfortably, a pair would definitely be pushing it. Most other tree frogs are out due to the size they reach in adulthood. I definitely would not put a red eye in there, WAY too small for anything bigger than a solitary froglet.
Like I said, it's a very small tank, and with plants and decor , the volume shrinks even more, so choices are very limited.

Well now I know Thanks now I can pass that info on to more people Also, everything I am finding about reds says that a pair can go in a 10 gallon, so that is why I said only 1 to be on the safeside. But then again you are the frog expert!
Yeah, that 10 gallon/frog guideline is just stupid. Lol I mean it is a good guideline, but you need to factor in decor, which takes up a bunch of space. 10 gallons, fully planted, with background built out becomes about 5 or 6 really fast!!

Very true. Didn't really think about that, you are definetly gonna give me advice on the tank I build !
