Toadlets help!

I have 7 toadlets I just got yesterday, and they are American toads. So I have 2 questions.
1. What is a suitable shallow water bowl I can use for these guys? (They are 1 cm long)
2. I tried giving them fruit flats (wingless) tonight, and they didn't eat them. Is it because they are still "absorbing" their tail? Because I did notice yesterday they still had a little bit of tail left and today not as much.
Please answer my questions!

1. I would give them enough water to submerge themselves.
2. I would keep trying with the fruit flies. They should be carnivorous now that they are out of the water.

It is ok to be submerged but make sure there are places where they can be only partially submerged. Toads are not great swimmers and could drown if they cant be partially out of the water

Water should be no deeper than their chin. Also some toadlets will start to eat even with a little nubbin, some wait until the tail is completely resorbed. Like Strider said, keep offering them FF and sit back and watch. Toadlets are such active little creatures and are usually out all the time. I've gone through the process many times with great success. I also feed newly hatched red runner roaches to toadlets also. Just make sure you are dusting the feeders alternating calcium and a multi vitamin. Also make sure your water is frog save, NO tap water.

They should start eating pretty quickly and eat you out of house and home soon! I hope you are good at culturing fruit flies, or at least have a good place to buy them! I was never so happy as when my toadlets started eating small worms and crickets.

Hello and welcome to FF! For such small toadlets, recommend initially keeping them in a quarantine like set-up with damp (dechlorinated tap) unprinted paper towels as substrate. Change those daily until toadlets are feeding and well established, around twice their present size.

Then you can use shredded coco (EcoEarth or Plantation Soil) for substrate and a small ramped water dish filled with dechlorinated tap to toads chin depth.

Agree with Gail in using supplements right away and remember to feed gut loaded (carrots, lettuce, and cherios cereal) insects smaller than the distance between toads eyes. Good luck and hope they start feeding soon !
