I changed the substrate as I do every month in the viv and cleaned all their items and viv walls, but I was curious if it was a urine problem or the new substrate?
This has been happening ever since I changed the substrate:
Their soaking dishes is filled with bright orange water. Is that normal? It has only been happening the passed few weeks. Is it the pee? I'll try and post a pic next time I see it.
If you use ABG Mix you shouldn't need to change the substrate except maybe yearly if you have springtails in the soil as well. Red urine is not re or orange (that I have seen). Maybe they are getting dirty and then soaking causing the water color to change a bit...?

What is ABG mix? I used to use EXO TERRA coco fibre... but i can't find it here anymore. still using coco fibre, but another brand
They still eat like normal, talk, and wake up at decent times.
ABG Mix (Atlanta Botanical Garden) is a mixture of several materials (Sphagnum Moss, Peat Moss, Charcoal chunks, Orchid Bark, and Tree Fern Fiber) to create a substrate base that decomposes slower, resists break down in humid conditions, does not compact (will stay airy for live plant growth) and has several components that help it retain water and assist with keeping the humidity up in the terrarium. You can buy it online from either NEHERP or Josh's Frogs. I prefer to order my terrarium supplies from NEHERP at the moment. They have a wider selection available and their shipping fees are the cheapest I have seen outside of Amazon.com.

Again, I just use the coconut fiber, clean the walls and plastic plants once a week. And clean their water dishes every day. Every month or so I clean everything out of the viv and put them in a holding viv for a few hours. I am just hoping the orange stuff in their water dishes is just the new substrate and not some sort of weird toxic urine because they're sick. They are pooping and eating like normal, and croak all night with each other. So. I am sure they're okay. I just had a scare when I bought the first little guy and he ended up being really sick (protozoa in poop) and luckily I caught it in time to save him. So now I think I am just paranoid! Lol
