It was a nice day to chill today. I managed to pick-up 3 beetles from my roof deck in less than 30 minutes with me just sitting there.
Not really an insect lover but beetles have always held a special place in my heart
Beetle #1.. A shiny bronze colored fella. Flew right into my face, twice lol
Beetle #2.. Had an elytra that is somewhat frosty like a refrigerated grape
Beetle #3.. Was a nasty one. It had mouthparts that could literally bite your skin off
Picked this one outside. This'll make a perfect "tree" for a small arboreal creature. This driftwood really was the highlight of my day lol
A morning view from my roof deck. I was like, WTH?!
Enjoy your monday guys. I sure did!![]()
Nice driftwood Neil! That is a big crane; what are you building in backyard!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
What Carlos said! That's a nice find =)
All insects are cool, but I kind of have opposite feelings as you... While I think some beetles are super awesome, and can't deny that they are remarkably successful (if not THE most successful of all animals), I never found them all that exciting to study. Wasps on the other hand? Yeah buddy!
Not a beetle guy, so don't laugh. I'll take a rough stab at families just for fun.
1) Reminds me of a Scarabaeidae, maybe subfamily Melolonthinae?
2) Also looks like a Scarabaeid?
3) Reminds me of Histeridae - Such as those in the genus Hololepta that have the predatory pincer-like mandibles. Elytra seem to long, though.

Neil, the beetles are cool!! I just got rid of about 5 branches of manzanita that look just like that.
I thought the crane was you expecting a feeder delivery, what with the zoo you have going there! Lol
Jeff, face it buddy, beetles are cool. Honeybees are cool. Wasps are just a**holes!! LoL

Hahahaha! But the driftwood is a superstar by itself. It can't seem to compliment the animals i'm thinking of housing it with.
I have zero clues as to what those beetles are, sorry haha. The first one is quite common though and seems to pester the pine trees in the neighborhood.
Wahaha you make that sound like a relief operation deep in the woods lol
I know, tell me about it! Mother nature is unfair to pretty insects lol
