I have been trying to get my hands on one of these guys for a while. Had a few a couple years ago, but haven't seen any since. If anyone has any or can get a few (2-4) and would be willing to sell for a reasonable amount, let me know. Preferably 6-8+ inches in length. I have a scientific supply company that I have been in contact with who can supply me with a minimum of ten 10-15 inch specimens for a little over $100, so if you want too much more than $10 per, I'll probably just find some interested people and order the lot of 10 to re-sell the extra ones.
I live in Albany NY, and I could either meet you or pick them up. I probably won't due shipping due to their temperature requirements and the fact that there are a few salamanders that in their larval state people mistake for these guys. I don't want to be stuck with a tiger salamander in a few months, so I want to be able to I.D. them beforehand.
Let me know,
Joe M
Joe, my advice to you is to either catch your own (they are common in any of the Great Lakes waterways) or to hold out for an advert on kingsnake.com. I see Mudpuppies for sale there at least twice a year, and they are the genuine article - just make sure the seller has a photo you can see.

All right thanks for the tip. I don't generally go to the great lakes region, but I have caught them in the western Mohawk river before. I've tried the last few years with no luck. I'll keep trying, and consider the drive out to the great lakes if I need too. I just wouldn't know where to start looking, and since I plan on keeping it, I would like to either hand catch it or use a net. I don't like the idea of using a hook for an animal I want to keep.
I am on kingsnake frequently, so I'll keep an eye out there as well.
Thanks, Joe.
Oh wow, just checked kingsnake and there are some up right now!
If its not too much trouble, could somebody take a look and see if these are the right guys? I've never personally seen one under about 8 inches.

Looks right. I've dealt with Leonard before so he knows what he's doing.

Alright thanks, I really appreciate the help. I've heard all good things about Leonard as well.
I emailed him already, I hope to have a couple within a few days. My tanks already up and cycled, so I just gotta hear back from him and pay the man.
Thanks again.
BTW I've only been here for a few days, and you run a great site. I'm on a few others, but this and caudata are probably the best 2 I've used.
Thanks Joe, that's very kind of you to say. You might mention frogforum to Leonard. He's getting free business :P.

I will mention it to him, and how you vouched for him being a good guy to deal with.
Did I violate a rule by posting a link to his ad like that? I really apologize if I did. I would've PMed you a link instead if that is the case.
No rules broken, don't worry. We're pretty easy going.

Yeah I noticed that, and that's why I like your sites. Nobody's ready to attack you if you make a mistake. It doesn't feel like a semi-hostile environment all the time.
Anyways thanks for all the help. I don't want to keep clogging up your classifieds with conversation, but when I get the salamanders I'll put some pictures up here and on caudata. I'm sure you'll see them.
I am looking forward to seeing them. Best of luck with the beasties.

Hi Joe! I was wondering if you might happen to have any mudpuppies or real waterdogs (necturus salamanders) that you can sell me for a comparative study of fully aquatic salamanders I am conducting? Or perhaps you can put me in touch with "Leonard"? Thanks, David Harrington david7945harr@yahoo.com
Joe,,if you live in Albany,,they're very abundant in the Hudson,,,,check under rocks...the Mohawk also....sacandaga lake has a ton of them.they have ice fishing contests every year to see who can catch the biggest..
