So a few weeks ago I noticed a few wriggling critters in the bottom of my vivarium, low and behold I fished out 17 of the little guys. Fast-forward to a week later, another batch of eggs. So I'm at about 70 tadpoles right now. The First batch is just getting their hind legs.
I have been feeding the tadpoles a diet of water-sprite and Tetra Color Flakes. They are kept at room temp, about 67 degrees, and are fast growers. I plan on getting fruit fly cultures and feeding the babies flightless D. Hydei. I was planning to keep the froglets in small containers think cool whip tubs until their old enough that i don't have to worry about them finding food. However, I'm a little confused as to how to prepare the lids so that they can breath but the flies wont escape.
Here is the kicker, I don't know how many froglets i can handle comfortably in my small apartment. So I'm looking to home the tadpoles and new froglets to whomever wants them. I do want to keep some to raise myself, and I will raise all of them if I have to. I already asked a couple of pet stores, and they expressed interest in adult toads not little tadpoles. I live on Long Island New York, If any forum members want to try their hand at raising some fire bellies.
Here are pictures of the earlier tadpoles, and the possible parents:
