I am on my cell and away from a computer so searching for answers is hard so sorry if this has been answered. But i have 2 red eyes in the same enclosure and they talk a lot. Like almost all night. I love the sound and was hoping that it is normal for them to chatter back and forth?
I would say that's a pretty good sign of happy healthy frogs![]()

I wish mine croaked through the night. My male croak when he wakes up, and when my alarm goes off in the morning, with an occasional croak or two in between. Maybe if I add another male to the tank.
Mine have two different croaks so I am pretty sure the bigger one is a female and the smaller one is male. They talk to each other all the time! I had the female (Kiwi) first, and she never croaked. A few months later I got the smaller guy (Gingernsap) and the night I brought him home he croaked all night. They were in separate tanks, however. But I bet they could still hear one another, and after that night all they do is croak! It's so awesome. I have them in my bedroom and they only really start croaking when I go in there to go to bed. Since I got the O.K. from the vet that both frogs are healthy to put them in the same tank they have talked so much more![]()
I love my little guys <3
Thanks for the quick responses. I am glad it is (possibly) a sign that they are happy.
I clean out their entire viv once every month, so they darn well better be!
Well that is nice. I wonder why my female(supposed) doesn't croak like yours. I'm Jelly! Hahahaha
Females generally don't croak at all. Its the males that do the talking usually. However, every frog is different so there may be exceptions. Odds are though that if your frog croaks often that its a male.

Yes the females don't croak, they only softly chirp when it is being bothered by another frog stepping or sitting on it. The males are very vocal mine chatter all night, it's so cute I love it, they have many different sounds unlike most frogs, they are not just vocal for breeding. Mine shake at each other too if they are getting bothered, I have seen males and females shake, I think it was only documented that males do this but I have seen one of my females do it as well.
I didn't know the females don't croak. I just hear two different croaks and have seen (what I assume is the female) make a noise while the other was asleep. Maybe I have two males. Where I got the frog they didn't know the sex. But I read that sexing is difficult. But you can go by size. And Kiwi is like 3x bigger than gingersnap and they are the same age. Maybe I am just crazy, but either way I still think it's awesome when I hear them. I love the sound! I haven't seen mine shake yet. They like to sit very close to each other on the spray nozzle every night :P
Some frogs are just smaller than others, I had a male who was a lot smaller than the other males but he was years older than them too. You most definitely have 2 males because I have 3 females and 2 males for over 4 years and the females don't make any noise apart from what I said before when they are being bothered.
