Hi I'm new to the forum. I live in Brisbane, Australia. I have a green tree frog living in the garden. He's quite friendly and is happy to take food from my fingers (freshly caught insects). I'm worried about one of his eyes though. As you can see in the photo, one is normal, but the right eye is always totally black. Do you think he might be blind in that eye? He could certainly afford to be fatter, which is why I hand feed him whenever he appears in the bird bath. We'll be going into winter soon (not that it gets freezing here) but I'm wondering if he has enough meat on his bones to survive the inactive time they generally have in the cooler months. Would I be doing him a kindness or harm if I brought him inside and set up a tank etc for him?
Wow that is weird! He probably is blind in that eye, try feeding him by approaching from that side and see if he turns his head towards the food. What are the temperatures during the winter? You can bring him inside and take care of him but I wouldn't release him back into the wild once he is accustomed to being kept as a pet he might not survive. But white's are hardy so he'd have a better chance, and he may continue to stay in your garden if he is happy lol. People only usually give them a cooling period in captivity to get them to breed but mostly they are kept inside at summer temperatures inside the enclosure year round with no problems.
It's around 8C overnight here in winter and around 20C during the day although there are the occasional variations that go to 5C less than both of those. He IS fatter than at the beginning of the warm weather. Compare this last September (just after winter) ...
