Oy. I think that after 2 months, this viv is nearly complete. I do have a couple of plants coming from black jungle yet, rabbits foot fern that I plan to use on the background, I'm not sure where at the moment, and some bacopa that they say can be grown in water but I have my doubts. I may plant the bacopa somewhere along the edge of the water feature instead of in it, but I'm quickly out of room.

Trimmed some of the ferns that were going crazy, added some purple passion cuttings, put a succulent in the top pot that gets dry and high light, and added an orchid to the background. Also added another moss, loving ferns and mosses right now. Also a creeping fig tucked in the back. Everything is growing more rapidly than I expected and I have a feeling I will be doing regular pruning.

I used rocks and faux eucalyptus (wireless and scrubbed in water) around the water dish to camouflage it a bit, the creeping Jenny should help with that also. You can see my suicidal springtails in the water dish. I think the population has exploded a bit.

I can't thank you guys enough for all of your help with this. It would have been so half *** otherwise. Sorry the pics aren't great quality, my phone camera is not what it was when I first got this phone. It sucks now.

The bacopa that black jungle sells is bacopa monnieri and it is indeed, aquatic. In fact, if you plant it right, it will grow out of the water and sprout tiny, little white flowers on the top

Thank you! I have plenty of experience with terrestrial bacopas, but none with aquatic. I will be reading about it today so that I'm ready for it when it comes. Do you think I can mount the rabbit's foot fern to the driftwood? I read they can be planted epiphyte style.

I'm really excited about the moss, because of the height of the grey tree frog viv, I don't seem to be able to keep moss alive in there. If I put a stronger light on the grey tank, it seems to send my frogs into hiding. Not only is it alive in this tank, but thriving.

I am ready to put the tree frogs in there, getting antsy now but I only have a couple more weeks.

Bacopa monnieri can be grown as an aquatic, or a marginal. I was growing it in my mantella tank for a while. I will have to see if I can find pics of them.

The fern can be mounted as an epiphyte, just remember to put some lfs at the roots.

    LoL M. Betsileo photo bomb!

Amy, I am going to be planting some rabbits foot fern in my new tank as well! I bought a $9 pot at a local nursery and got something like 20 - 25 plants out of it. Though they are struggling in the basement. I want to get some of them in this tank and the other to rehab them.

I do like the bacopa. I read that it will stay a low ground cover with decent lighting.

Paul, I have not seen rabbits foot fern anywhere in the area, I wish I had, it's really cool! I did get the purple passion, which I broke up into 3 plants, at a local garden center on clearance for $1.50. The orchid I got for $3.00 on clearance because it was no longer blooming. I also got a tillandsia for $1.00 and the succulent for $1.50 that day. The most expensive thing I bought that day was the faux eucalyptus for $4.99. It really helps to start learning about the tropicals so I know what I'm looking at when I go to the store.

I did get some dwarf Cryptocoryne wendtii at petsmart last night for the grey tree frog tank. Let's hope it's actually dwarf.

Wow great finds Amy! The more I learn about these plants the more I pay attention at local stores lol. I went to Petco last night again to look at plants and decided against it. I really wish we had a better pet store in the area.

The crypt will not be dwarf. There is no such thing. The c. Wendti 'red' I have growing in my growout tank is about 12-14" tall. It can grow over a foot tall emersed. You should have told me you wanted crypts, I would have sent you some plantlets.

I wasn't sure if I really wanted it, I didn't know that crypts came in dwarfs (because apparently they don't) and the package said it would only grow to 6 inches so I thought I would try it. I guess I will be scrapping that, I don't have the room for it. Aquatic anything is not my forte. I was a horrible fish mom and was never able to keep live plants (or live fish for that fact) in the tank, which is why I no longer have fish.

Don't scrap them, plant them. Then trim the heck out of them as they grow. The beauty of plants is that you can control them with proper and timely trimming

They are planted right now, and tiny, I will trim them like you said then, it's just very hard to reach to the bottom of my hex tank! Ahh the joys of being short.

Lol. You have plenty of time to build a step stool, crypts are very slow growers. And that's if they don't all melt first lol they are notorious for melting when moved. So don't be surprised if you lose some.

I was foolish to change up my lighting. Everything was growing so well and 2 weeks with a new light, a lot of it is doing very poorly and a few things seem to be dead. I ordered the new LED light and some new plants to try to fill in some bare spots. I will throw together a grow out tank so that I can try to revive a few of the plants, like my dead moss. So much for not spending more money right now!
