Looked up native frogs of California. Best match was the Great Basin Spadefoot Toad

The frog or toad is actually from viet nam

The frog is probably Kaloula pulchra, or the banded bullfrog (chubby frogs in the pet trade), commonly found in southeast Asia. They make fairly good pets and they secrete a mild toxin from their skin.
