While looking for some logs to go in my American Toad's Exo Terra, I found a very nice hollowed out stick. It was perfect with for my toad to crawl into and hide. However, when I pulled it up, carpenter ants ran out from every direction! I drenched, and I mean DRENCHED, it in ant poison. I rinsed it with water, and later it rained with it still outside. It makes me angry that now I probably won't be able to use it due to poison.

Hi Logan! Sorry; but recommend throw the poison treated log away. No matter of rinsing is going to make that safe again.
Next time, shake as much dirt and stuff off wood piece as you can and bag it. Then when home, rinse in water, and bake for 1 hour at 250F in oven. Following that, turn off oven and let it wood pice slowly cool overnight inside the oven.
Any remaining ants, eggs, molds, bacteria, etc. will be dead and then you can use safely. Wood piece might mold over when vivarium is fresh; but it will go away as molds consume any organics. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Most definitely not ! Yikes
How about a nice pc of cork/round.
It will last much , much longer![]()
