That is true, even today the amphibian population is declining rapidly in the wild. I am not against the pet trade, as I have been keeping frogs and toads as pets for years and it is a better way to preserve species as frogs and toads tend to live longer in captivity than in the wild; however to good things there are also always bad things. However if people go to far to protect an animal, then its probably be best to stay far away from them.
