Hi guys,
I got some new baby red eyed tree frogs yesterday and I *think* they're doing great.
The whole thing was almost a disaster since the day my frogs shipped, my under tank heater decided to die and I can't keep the humidity in the tank without it. Luckily I was able to get one overnighted, get their tank ripped apart, the heater installed and put back together within an hour so they didn't have to wait too long to go to their new home.
Here's their tank:
Here are the frogs after they arrived:
And here they are in their new habitat:
I bought them baby crickets to eat, although I think the baby crickets still may be too big (and the pet store is currently out of wingless fruit flies). I could be wrong though because I haven't seen any crickets today...and there were several in there last night.
So cute...and a gorgeous tank you have too.
I have that same tank, LOVE IT! Your plants are much bigger than mine, looks great. I don't have a waterfall tho, just a dish for soaking...I do have a Monsoon setup that I love. NICE JOB and very cute frogs.
I saw this viv online with the golden buddha in the background. That thing is sick, I wanted it so bad lol. I just may save up for one some day
Awww, they are so TINY! Nice setup, too!
One of my frogs likes to sleep on the top of the buddha's head and one prefers the arm pit. I need to get a picture of them.....
Thanks guys It really is a great tank, I like it a lot. This is the first time I've ever had frogs and I'm glad I went with the tank I did.
@Reg I think I'll be getting a monsoon system too, I'm having a hard time keeping the humidity up without flooding the tank (I learned from my test setup though and stuck a hidden tube down through the substrate into the hydro balls layer to siphon the water out if that happens ). Right now the "rain" they get is from my spray bottle
They're awesome little frogs and also insanely good at hiding. Me and several friends spent about 45 min looking for one of them and he was hiding in plain site!
I did have a question about their eating habits as babies. The information I found online (which was mixed so here is an average) said that adult frogs eat between 3 - 5 crickets every few days. Well, last night there were 6-8 baby crickets in the tank, and I literally could only find one in the morning. I scoured the tank, picked up rocks, no crickets. Did my little frogs really eat that many crickets last night? Is that normal? (If so I better grab more than 1 bag at the pet store next time ).
They also are sleeping a lot. I rarely see them awake.
Congrats! Just got mine as well. Aren't they adorable! and so fun to watch.
Remember Red-Eyed Leaf Frog's are nocturnal. they are only up at night. so they sleep all day. mine will sleep sometimes during the night to when she has nothing to hunt. so i wouldn't be to worried there new and adapting to their new home. so give them some time. Congrats agian.
omg i absolutely love that tank!! Can you get a background for the one i have?? it's a zoo med 12x12x18!
And your frogs are so freakin cute!!
Thanks!
They make backgrounds for your size tank, but I don't believe you can get the same one I have since it was part of the special edition Sri Lanka tank. The only one I found on their site was rock ones (the rock ones look nice though I've seen them. They look better in person than they do on the website).

Cool!! Thanks!!!!
if you want to keep the humidity up you can put glass or plexiglass over the screen part on the top. you can use other things too! you're frogs are so cute! they remind me of my old red eyed tree frog! which died while i was on vacation because my friend didn't take care of him
Seran wrap half of the top of your viv, this will help with humidity. I use seran on both my vivs.
Yeah, I love the originality of that tank.
Your babies are so small too!! Awesome, good luck with them.
Ok I'm pretty sure my hygrometer is broken. Even after covering the roof with saran wrap and misting it still says 20% humidity.
I ordered a new one just to be safe.
