It does sound like stress, though its hard to say for sure. Does he look healthy otherwise?

You are doing the right thing. Let him settle in and get used to the tank. Quietly peek in to make sure he's upright.

I'm not sure if the altitude change will harm him. I'm sure they can feel it, but I think they should be able to slowly adjust?
