So i started to keep a bumblebee PDF as a first time owner and wanted to turn a 10 gallon tank into a tropical vivarium. My thing is with the lid, can i use a plain clear custom cut glass as a lid? i've read that dart frogs don't need ventilation and other posts saying that they do? my plan is to have the whole top covered with a piece of glass with light on top (those fish tank lights). the thing that concerns me the most is that if i do completely cover the top, wouldn't that cause mold and mites to pop up in the tank?? any way to prevent this? any help is greatly appreciated thanks.
Your best bet is to use a glass lid made for a 10g tank. They cost around $20 on avg. you can drill holes in the plastic spacer to allow a small amount of ventilation and that should keep issues like mold and mites at bay. Expect some white mold at the onset of the tank if you have natural wood in there, it's normal and goes away on it's own in a few weeks.
Opening the lid daily to feed will give enough air exchange for the frogs.
