Hey gang,
After weeks of trying to get my frog to eat, I had to get crafty... I would like to point out that I didn't force feed him, but it was not very voluntary on his part. I have a set of tongs that I use to feed him. I put the worm in the tongs and nudged his face with them. He backed up, refusing the meal. After a while he backed into a corner. I know it seems harsh, but I kept nudging him on his face and feet. I was trying to initiate a bite response. Eventually he got frustrated and took the worm from me. I also want to point out at no point was I rough with him, it was all gentle nudging to provoke a biting response. I tried another worm but he would not take it. I didn't want to overly stress him out, but I did want him to have SOMETHING you know? Anyway that is that, I am open to any other options besides force feeding if I can't get him to eat again. Thanks for reading.
Hey man, that's great, I'm glad you got some food in the little booger.
I understand what you mean about provoking a biting response. I rub the end of worms of my frog's lip, but I've found the corners of his mouth are very ticklish, and if I rub there, he turns in a 180 degree tank spin I call it, and refuses. He will try to jump out and try to climb up the corner to refuse. BUT, if I rub it on the front of his mouth, it doesn't seem ticklish, but it DOES seem to make him angry, then when he bites, I just move away and when he realizes he has a worm in his mouth, he eats it. I just got a big one down him with that method right now.
It's stressful too be forced that way but they gotta eat. I really hope Lunchbox improves!
Thanks! I am going to wait a couple of days before I try again. As it is probably very stressful on the poor guy. I think I am going to stop feeding vertebrates entirely. He hasn't had problems with feeding them before but I feel like they may have become an issue.
