Hi everyone! This is my first post. Back in October, I caught what I assume is a (female?) Fowler's toad, going by the bumps. I've successfully kept it in a 5 gallon fish tank with some coconut fiber bedding because that's what the fish and reptile guy at petsmart suggested as substrate. I plan on upgrading it to my fish's tank once they are out of the picture, but since then I've also caught a female grey tree frog. Does anyone know if these two get along at all? The toad is almost two inches long from tip of the nose to the tail bump and the frog is barely at an inch. I don't have much money for another tank but I do have access to a cheese puff barrel that I can convert into a terrarium, if someone can advise me on what to use to clean it.
As someone who adores tree frogs and toads, I'd really like to be able to keep both of them (if not in the same container then at least at the same time), especially since I caught the tree frog during the lunar eclipse last night and it looks like the surface of the moon.
Thanks guys!
This is gonna sound harsh, but if you can't supply the right enclosure for the frog or toad you should release them. The toad should have a minimum of a 10 gallon tank or bigger. Also removing adults this time of year means you are removing thousands of future amphibians. This is breeding season so why not wait until you can get some tads and raise them up. This way to can get the whole experience.

I have a 50 gallon long tank, which does not hold water, as well, but I'm not sure how to go about setting something that big up for the tree frog, namely how do I enclose it. I think my questions are all over the place and probably should go in different spots on the forum... I've had tads before, but I guess I don't have the knack for them, because they die every time! I love tree frogs but you're probably right that I should let this one go. I tried feeding it and it just hid in a corner and ignored the tiny crickets I let loose. I fed the toad separately to make sure it wouldn't eat the frog's food.
The toad seems fine in the 5 gal tank (as I said, it's temporary housing, my 15 gallon tank has fish in it at the moment and I'm trying to rehome them) I caught the toad thinking I'd save it from pesticides that the kid I used to nanny's mom would have sprayed constantly on their yard, and that I'd keep it over winter, but I've gotten a little too attached to it. I have about 4 or 5 inches of substrate in the tank so it's got plenty of room to burrow, and it's eating fine. I'm not too worried about it at the moment.
