Thank you for the help everyone, I think I'll get some pond foam and seal well with silicone.

just remember to carve the foam first and also do it in stages if you can, the black foam i suggested does come with a nozzle to cap off the foam so it can be re-used (apparently, never figured out how to do it last time). so just add a little at a time.

also a great idea if you have any left over and a sheet of plastic etc laying around, spray on excess foam around a plant pot for cool little planters
