No worries Gail, I would never have taken it as a compliment.
Two things:
1) it states this in the ad (I copied a bit of it because I found it humorous):
The HygeniClean UVC Antibacterial Light Wand is meant to be used as a sanitising device in a dry area, not as a flashlight meant to be carried around, thrashed, trashed, and abused, so I won't try to drown it in the toliet tank, bash it against a steel rod or against the concrete floor of a patio, let my housemate's citty kats go to the litterbox on it, run over it with a 450lb Celebrity motorised wheelchair, stomp on it, use a large claw hammer in order to smash it open to check it for candiosity,
The main thing there being it's for use in dry conditions.
2) if you were to go against the above statement, and used it in a Viv, would it kill off the beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria we need in our little Eco systems?
I think it could be a useful tool in sanitizing vivs before use, or sanitizing a qt tank. But I don't see any benefits to using it in an established Viv.
Those things aside, I seriously question the apparatus at $20. I always go by "you get what you pay for". If it's cheap, then the probability stands that it probably doesn't do what it's supposed to. But then again, it may. I would love if someone who has access to one of these and a microscope could do a test run.
