Hi All, i have a green tree frog and for the past 8 years he has been great. Just today i awoke to a loud bang, and i noticed he was jumping around the cage, falling upside down, had lack of suction on his feet, had heavy breathing, and looked to be digging around the bottom layer of his enclosure. He was showing large levels of activity which has never been seen before at this time of day and im really worried.
He is always fed, enclosure has heating etc. Well looked after, and i dont know if this is signs of the end of his life? He has lots of red-ness underneath his body, and im worried somethings happened to him or im doing something wrong, or somethings going wrong.
Hopefully someone can help, thank you.
That's not good...! I hope he settles down and does not hurt himself. I hope you can find out what is causing him so much distress. Best Wishes!![]()
Thank you for your wishes but he didnt make it through. He passed away while i was asleep.
But it is to notice that there is a black looking fungal spread on the top side of his body and i am wondering what could have caused this?
I am so sorry to hear about your loss... It sounds like he lived a long happy life with you, though. 8 years is no drop in the bucket. I have read that most captive bread frogs live about 7 years minimum, so he for sure lived a good life. I have never heard of a black fungus on tree frogs! SO strange. I wonder if it started growing after he died or if it may have been in his body to begin with and over took him after he died? It makes me curious and I am going to look into it myself. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your little friend. It does not sound like anything you have done, I mean if it was that simple I don't think he would have lived 8 happy years. If I find any info on the black fungus I will post it here for you. Maybe it will help shed some light on what happened. If you have any other frogs or other fragile pets, I would clean up his home A.S.A.P. so it does not spread just to be safe. Remember the good time you had with him and Best Wishes!![]()
