I recently acquired two of these ADF's about a week ago winning them from an arcade. i just got back from a fishing trip and brought home some of the river water and seaweed for them. since then, i've cleaned the tank and filled it with the river water and redecorating the tank a bit. i've also noticed that since i've done this they have been making these buzzing sounds. what are they? are they good or are they bad? im assuming they are good, but you guys seems to know more about them then i do. thanks and i hope to learn more about these frogs for they are AWESOME!!!![]()
Means you have some male frogs. Means they are ready to mate and thats their mating call.
sweet! that sounds pretty cool. i think i might have gotten lucky with the male/female thing. it seems as though one is growing and its already a little bigger than the other one too. but im not to sure. i'll give it some more time to see if it continues to grow. the bigger one seems to hide more than the smaller one though. good sign?
heard the call all through the night last night. it was cool and didnt bother me at all.
but, since i've added the man made cave and the plants they seem to hide out a lot. is that normal?
Yes. BTW they kept me up all night! Could you please tell your frogs to keep it down tonight so I can sleep. Thanks.![]()
haha yea, i'll try to talk them into being quiet.
but! they seem to be doing it more often! before it was like every hour or two. now, its like every five minutes! oh, and they are making bubbles now. what is that?
No idea. Bettas make bubble nests, but they are fish. So I have no idea. Maybe Terry of Frank can say. Frank did write an article over at ThatPetPlace on these frog.
The only information I was able to find on frogs making bubbles is from a German web site.
Translated: "On the 14th day of their lives you can watch the little swimmers taking in air at the surface and then making bubbles under water, exhaling just like adult frogs."
So I would assume that your frogs are merely exhaling.
These frogs, like their larger cousins, the ACFs, are quite vocal during breeding season. Unlike the ACFs, only male ADFs call.
