Hey guys. I have 3 fbts In a 10 gallon and I was wondering what kind of heating/lighting you all recommend. I had a bulb go out on the aquarium lighting I'm using and began using a red bulb I had on hand. I have no heating for them right now either.
Ever since I began using the red bulb they've been lethargic and not eating. Any suggestions on what to use? I want to buy them what they need after I get off work today.
Also they were eating fine but now they won't touch their food. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
It was what I had at home.
About 70
gut loaded crickets.
I'll post a photo when I get home. It's hard on mobile but it's 60/40 water land.
Ok looks like my photo did upload. Yay. I'm thinking of putting coconut fibre and gravel in a Tupperware bowl to make for drier land though.
Hard to say. Temps and set up looks OK, you can try feed them Nightcrawler worm.
Thanks. I know that pet store associates aren't always reliable, but I talked to the guy where I got them from and worked out a few things to try. First I got some cricket calcium dust to add to my cut loaded guys, and some better lighting and I've turned the submersible heater back on. I'm waiting to see if they become more active with more light and warmer water. I'm also going to play around with their habitat tonight to make it a bit nicer. Hopefully what I'm doing will work. If not, I have another pet store to try tomorrow for food. I'm feeding the same food they've always been fed by the petstore so far and it hasn't been a problem in the past. I'm wondering if changing a darn light made that big of an issue.
Really changing anything in their set up including adding a light could stress them out. Just give them some time to adjust and they should start eating again
Try not to worry too much. They are very resilient; you could end up making things worse instead of better and just driving yourself crazy in the process.
Thank you.
I've tried crickets, wax worms, and now red worms and they will not eat in front of me. I think they're either in a state or semi dormancy or eating at night. I can't think of anything in their habitat that I could adjust other than maybe a water change, but I'm beginning to just think they are shy about eating.
They are still fat which makes me feel better. I took Odin and Heimdallr out to feed them separately to no avail. I think I'm just pissing them off and stressing them out.
Heimdallr, and the next two are Odin (who by the way is really brightening up).
ETA: I didn't bother trying to take Loki out and doing the same. He's far more skittish than these two and I doubt it would have worked.
My toads r super fussy too. They get crickets, redworms, mealworms and small supers. Sometimes they will hand feed, sometimes not. I just try to mix things up as they tend to get bored of one food item quickly
If by Red worms you mean Red Wrigglers; they are not a good food. When stressed they produce a foul tasting slime that will prevent frogs from eating them. Then frogs could associate similar earthworms to them and stop eating those too.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Update: The problem seems to have resolved itself. I went to a family owned pet shop the next town over and got smaller crickets, hoping it would solve the problem, and it did. They've been munching on crickets ever since.![]()
