Ok so first time amphibian keeper here, as some may have already seen my posts you'll know i'm trying to get as much information. So i have had a think about it and this is what i plan on doing, please comment good or bad and whether you think this is a good viable way to house some fire bellied toads.
First off this vivarium is 45x45x45cm
Ok so the water is going to be separated from the land with a 'wall' of sorts using expanding foam. The expanding foam will also be covered in silicon. I'm going to shape it so it's easy to get in and out of but it'll be high enough to make sure the 'pond' water doesn't get into the substrate (is that a good way to go about it?).
Now i'm not 100% on what mix of substrates i'm going to use but i plan on having a drainage system in the land side, probable gravel covered by mesh then topped with the substrate, i'm going to have the substrate at least 4inches.
If the substrate is deep enough i should be able to plant straight into it right?
So what do you guys think? The thing i'm worried about is completely separating the land from the water, personally it sounds like a good idea but it like other opinions, not only on the land / pond thing but the whole build.
Thanks.
Just thought i'd add im not 100% sure if im going to make a background straight onto the glass of the viv or not.
(I copied this post, i'd made it on a different forum but i thought it'd sit well here as this place is all about amphibians).
That sounds like a great viv to me. Its much fancier thsn what I keep my pets in. plants should be perfectly fine planted straight into the substrate. and the drainage system sounds awesome.
