    Talking Hi...I'm May!

    Hi

I joined this forum to find some answers and other frog fans!
I am thinking of buying a Northern Green Tree Frog.
I live in Western Australia and am a bit confused about the licencing system so if anyone knows anything about that, i'd love to hear from you!

I have always loved frogs and when i was little i carried a big green fluffy teddy frog everywhere. His name was Froga (pronounced Froe-gah) haha!

I would love to learn more about frogs as pets and I hope you guys can help me!

    Maya xx

Hello, May. I live in the US, so I can't help you on the liscencing thing. Australia seems to be a nice country, and two of the frogs that I like from there are the Aus. Red eyed tree frogs and the White's tree frogs. Nice to meet you, and have fun here!

The RETF/RELF is from Central America (and I believe northern South America), definitely not Australia.

PS: Maya I will ask someone I know who should have an answer for you if no one beats me to it here.

Welcome aboard. I think you will like it here.
The treefrog Billy was refering to is Litoria chloris or the Australian red-eye tree frog, a native of Queensland. They are a common species, but sadly are never exported.
Agalychnis callidryas is not the only red-eyed hylid in Latin America, frogs of the genus Duellmanohyla also have red-eyes but with horizontal pupils. Sadly they are never exported either. Some of them quite stunning. Double
The northern green treefrog is a species that most of us are quite familar with. We know it by the name of White's treefrog, L. caerulea. In Australia it is know as either the green treefrog or the northern green treefrog.

Thanks, Kurt. I was trying to remember the latin name, but I was very tired, and didn't want to search for it. I've never heard Northern Green Treefrog as a moniker of White's.

Wow! I love the D. soralia! Interesting how the horizontal pupils are. I'd love to get some of all of those species. But for sheer color, none of them beat A. callidryas.

Maya I have your answer for you from Jacq on Caudata.org (my other forum):

This link contains the list of available reptiles and amphibians covered by licence categories ("Approved Reptile Keeping List 2003" - pdf): http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/animals/rep...ets/index.html

The application forms can be found here: http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/animals/rep...plication.html

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers, Jacq.
