Default Water stats for ACF... What should it be?

I have some test strips for the water and trying to maintain good water for my little guy. What should the pH and alkalinity be? Should the water be hard or soft? The strip says the Nitrates and Nitrites are in safe ranges( The strip barely changes color at all), and the water is soft, but it is in the middle of the scale of readings. One bax over and it would be starting down the harder side of the scale. The alkalinity and pH seem to be at the mid range of the scale, but I don't remember the numbers right now. Does anyone have a little knowledge to impart about this?

The most important thing is that its stable ... typically they adjust as long as it stable.

I would recommend a liquid test kit API master kit is the most highly recommended, Strips tend to be inaccurate.
