I haven't checked the pH. I've had the same water in there for about a week and I've had the foam filter going 24/7 and I've been cleaning out all the waste and removing leftover food after 10 minutes so I didn't even think to check the acid balance. Do you think that's what it was? And would it affect him that fast?
