    Default Cloudy Eyes

I have 7 White's! Love them! My oldest has recently developed cloudy eyes. As if he's gone blind. Any advice is appreciated since I have no idea what to do! I've made it through cuts & scrapes, but this is new for me. He still moves around okay...in & out of the water bowl, up & down the terranium, but does seem to be skinnier. He used to be pretty fat. I'm going to feed him seperately tomorrow to see if he's able to track movement still.

    Your help is appreciated!

    Tiffany

Hi Tiffany, I moved your post to give you your own thread. The eyes will cloud over when they are praparing to molt. How old is it? Has it ever molted before?

It could be an infection since it's lost weight. I've heard of one eye getting an infection, but not two. However with the weight loss and both of them cloudy I'd be concerned. I'd keep an eye on it, but if it doesn't get any better, a vet visit might be a good idea.

I have seen infections in both eyes at the same time. However I have never seen a frog's eyes cloud over before shedding. Snakes, yes several times over, but never frogs.

In snakes there is a clear scale, the brille, that covers the eye. When a snake is preparing to shed the upper epidermis clouds underneath as it begins to separate and this includes the brille. Frogs do not have brilles, they have nictitating membranes, but theses are not shed like a snake sheds its brille.

I've had him for at least 3 years, maybe 4. By molt do you mean shed? If so, she he has. His eyes have been like this for a few weeks how. I took him out and put him in what I like to call the hospital terranium and see if lower humidity would help but it didn't. It actually seemed to get worse. He did eat however, which was the other reason I took him out (it's hard to tell who is eating when you have 7 frogs).

Thanks for your help and concern!
