I just got these little ones the 12th, Currently they are eating Frozen Brine Shrimp and Frozen bloodworms. They will be moved into my tank as soon as they are big enough, For now they are in a 1 gallon holding tank.
My 5 gallon has hides and Marimo and Two Anubias Nana but its sand substrate, its SUPER fine though .5-.75 mm according to the site, running my fingers through it I can not even feel grains. They have a heater in their holding tank thats 25 watts so when they are ready to be moved it will be moved with them. I am keeping them an 75 degrees and feeding them daily. Water changes as needed , At least 1 100% change weekly.
Do they look ok?
Could it also be that they are less than an inch ... actually they are about 1/2 inch and purchased from someone who raised them from eggs.
Do you think they would do better in my 5 gallon? Its not running a filter because I couldn't find one appropriate but I do regular water changes and we all know adf are not exactly messy.
Unless you have a recommendation on a filter, I do have several tanks I could cycle it in.
More water is better. It shouldn't be so deep the ADF cannot surface for air easily, since they're notoriously poor swimmers.
I think those Fluval U4 filters aren't bad (I use one with my ACF grow-out tank), though Whispers are cheaper and work fine too.
The only thing really "messy" about ADF is over feeding and leaving excess food in the tank, I would just avoid that since it fouls up the water pretty fast.
Its less than a foot deep. I just worry that it has sand substrate as its also my shrimp tank. I dont mind if they eat some there are lots of shrimp only hiding places.
is there anything more enticing I can feed them?
