Thread: Saw Frog Shed for first time!

Default Saw Frog Shed for first time!

It was quite interesting to see!
Tonight I went to feed him, he was out, but was not interested in the cricket at all!
Then he started moving his back legs and bloating a little and coming back down. It looked like he was trying to get something off.
I continued to watch an realized he was shedding!
Continuing to just push it to his mouth and open his mouth a lot.
    It was SO cute. :3
    He looks very green now.

I filled his pool up because it was very low when I first saw it.
But I think he soaks in it before he sheds.

Watching him shed just made my night. X)

Yep, watching shedding the first time can be a trip. Sometimes it scares owners into thinking the frog is convulsing .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I remember reading somewhere on here that they shed. I know if I didn't read that here, I would have been scared. X)

This is a joint account between J and A, and this is J.

Just want to say, our lovechildfrog is named Bubba, and he is scared to death of me (probably because I'm big and loud, or maybe it began when the cat knocked him off the ironing board I set him on (in a container) on my watch) But now that Bubs is a bit older, he likes A much better.

To feed him I usually have to fight with him for 20 minutes, but when A feeds him he acts tong-trained and enthusiastic. And another thing is shedding.

The only evidence I have ever seen that he even sheds is, I believe, a bit of skin shedding on his forearm. But for A, she's seen him wiggle all around and scrape it off with his back feet and eat it.

So, they have to feel comfortable around you to let you see them do that. Shedding is a time of stress for most animals because their defenses are lowered. If they are busy shedding they aren't paying as good attention to their surroundings and their range of movement is impaired.

I guess that means your frog can tolerate your company, so good work! Oh, by the way, if you think THAT'S weird, wait til you see them try to attract another frog by wiggling their back toes hypnotically! Apparently they mainly do this if you have another frog they are aware of, and while Bubba has obviously never done it in front of me, I saw it on a YouTube video and it is FREAKY! Also the video I saw showed it was effective, and other frogs in nearby cages came as close as they could to the magical delicious toes of doom!
