I have super nests or whatever they are called and the ants have got around the pond. Not only do I want to get rid of them as they keep coming into the house (eg they came inside and killed the crickets, getting in the tiny airholes).. Im worried too they could harm my new baby frogs .. maybe why I havent seen any of them so far completely out of the pond?. I brought some diatomaceous earth to kill the ants but are wondering if its safe for frogs if I used it in their area on ant trails?
If anyone has other ideas for ants which are safe for frogs... please let me know
thanks
Here is what I have found
Diatomaceous Earth General Fact Sheet
So no I do not think it will harm frogs.
I have only used it in filter media for aquariums.
Hi there thanks for that.
I did realise this substance is completely non toxic but it works on killing insects is by cutting into them and then causing them to dehydrate... hence why I was concerned and wondering if anyone here has had experience with using it around frogs. Its action isnt chemically toxic as such even on the things it kills. But you are probably right there and it is probably safe for frogs to jump on (I'd just hate to ruin my yard for them and kill my frogs due to a mistake, id quit wanting to have frogs again if I ever did that).
