My little tadpoles have sprouted their arms. The last several times I have followed the instructions from the place I got them, it has been incorrect. I want to make sure their transition is a good one. It says to stop feeding them when the arms separate from the body. Is this correct? It also says not to feed them again until the tail is only about a 1/2 an inch long. How long should this take? I don't want to starve the little buggers.
There was a post on here I thought about this very thing, but I can't find it. If someone could provide a link, that would also be helpful![]()
I am no expert so please do research and don't take what I am saying as law.
From what I have seen you keep feeding the tadpoles until they leave the water. They will not eat once they leave the water until their tail has been fully observed. Once it had they need to be offered food daily. Make sure the food is small enough for them to safely swallow. Springtails are a common food for newly morphed froglets. Small fruit flies are also good as are pin head crickets.

Once ACF tadpoles have all 4 legs and begin to absorb tail they will stop feeding. It should take around 3 days for tail to be completely absorbed into body. Once froglet transformation is complete, you can start feeding again with tadpole food, thawed frozen foods of appropriate size (brine shrimp and daphnia), and chopped blood or black worms. Water quality during this stage is important, so recommend daily 25% water changes. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
After the fore arms free themselves from the side of the body, should they begin absorbing the tail immediately?
