i have 4 adg. one is over 1 year old and the other one a young i just bought them.
is there a way to know if they are male of female? is there a ratio male/female?
thank you
Hi,
the most secure sign is that sexually mature males have small "bumps" in their armpits:
Females tend to become larger, are rounder in shape and lack those bumps:
In my experience, there seem to be more males than females (as most of my young frogs turned out to be male); but a friend of mine almost always got young females when she bought new frogs, so Iīm not quite sure
Amphibians kept:
9.10.3 Hymenochirus boettgeri
2.4.0 Xenopus laevis
0.1.0 Hypselotriton orientalis
3.0.0 Hyloxalus azureiventris
4.1.0 Pipa parva
2.1.2 Bombina orientalis
1.0.0 Ceratophrys cranwelli
2.2.0 Bombina orientalis
Oh, I forgot: female ADFs canīt vocalize and donīt attempt to amplex other frogs, so the behaviour differs as well.
Also, the bumps differ in size from male to male and depending on their hormone status:

so i am pretty sure that my oldest frog is a female she is round, i dont see bump and i never heard her make any noise.
and for the 3 other one. 2 are *long* and 1 look *fat* so maybe 2 male and one female for the young one. but will see
Here are some more photos. They're difficult to sex until they're in breeding condition.
Thank you Geoff for posting pics of your frogs! I now can feel good about my " fat " frogs! I thought they were fat but it appears they are the right size for females! It seems I have 2 females and 2 males. I posted pics of mine further down the line in this forum.
