Hello all!
It has been awhile since I have posted anything and for that I apologize. But anyway, I had some questions about what kinds of foods I can add to my pacmans diet to give him some variety without making him sick. Right now he is on a staple diet of night crawlers, with occasional crickets for some exercise, and Superworms for roughage. He also gets 2 or 3 pinkies about once a month. I then let him fast for a week or so to digest. I had some ideas to try out, but I wanted to get some opinions before I go throwing food into the seemingly endless stomach of this amphibian... NARBC is coming to my area in March, and they often have vendors that carry "out of the ordinary" feeders. I am liking the looks of hornworms to try as a treat. I have also seen calci-worms as well as pheonix worms which I would also like to throw in the mix. Are those okay to try? I also have a buddy who breeds dubias for his lizards. I had thought about using those as well, but I wasn't sure if the chitin content was too high. Any opinions? I have also heard of using either goldfish or rosy reds in the water bowl as an idea. That would surely add protein but are they healthy for pacs? There were also some frozen options I would like to look at. I have seen frozen anoles/geckos that are fed to some snakes. I am aware that these would very likely be in the diet of a wild pacman. And while I am aware that he is in captive care and doesn't NEED such a thing I think it would be neat to try. My only reservations come from the potential parasite hazard. I have also seen frozen quail chicks available. They certainly add variety, and I don't see any real harm in them if they are being fed to appropriately sized frogs. Finally, I was curious about using regular, unseasoned cocktail shrimp. They are lean and meaty, but I still didn't know if it was a good idea. So anyway what do we think? I haven't tried any of the mentioned items yet, I wanted to hear everyone's opinions on what is or is not good amongst those to feed. Any information is useful, and I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this novel and help a guy out. Thanks again, -Wes
