Toad ID

I hate to disagree with everyone, but I believe this toad to be Chaunus marina, the marine toad or cane toad or giant toad (take your pick). I just looked in my Peterson field guide and it show prominent cranial crests which I don't see in this toad. I do see them in the link Terry provided. So based on the lack of these prominent crest and the shape of the paratoid glands, I am going to have to say that this is indeed a marine toad. Sorry.

Correct. It is definitely a juvenile cane toad. Beside the indicators you mentioned the head is much to large proportionally to be a southern toad.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Mainly this means the dog has to be walked instead of let out in the yard since they seem to have themselves a little home under our propane tank... Stupid dog has pulled out 3 at least... Might be able to grab a bigger one to take a look at it instead of the little one (Let it go already)

I guess I was being too optimistic. Would liked it to have been a southern toad, not a cane toad. Good catch, Kurt!

Cane toads would be my pick over the treefrog(although I have an uncanny nature to prefer toads to frogs), because cane toads adapt easier to captivity and not only that they live a LONG time, oh and not to mention they are huge and cute. You should get a sexed pair. ;] Females are fatter and bigger btw.
