Toad ID

Hi I was wondering if any one would be so kind as to help me ID this toad. there are quite a few of them around my home... I'm located in South East FL. I think it's just a Southern Toad (Anaxyrus Terrestris). But my Room mate is telling me it might be a baby Cane Toad (Rhinella Marina) and is afraid for his little dog, which will not leave them alone.

Hi there Tangeleno, Im sorry but im no expert on Toads so I would get a second opinion, but from what ive seen to me it looks more like a Southern Toad because of the colour and markings..

I would agree with Ebony and say it looks like a Southern Toad. Besides color and markings, many U.S. toads can be identified by their cranial crests. I have included a link showing the crest of the Southern Toad.

Thanks very much for the replies. Gonna have to get my 30 gal unpacked... debating on if I want to grab a few of these or maybe some Cuban Tree Frogs from around here. Any suggestions

Cuban treefrogs would be my pick.

I hate to disagree with everyone, but I believe this toad to be Chaunus marina, the marine toad or cane toad or giant toad (take your pick). I just looked in my Peterson field guide and it show prominent cranial crests which I don't see in this toad. I do see them in the link Terry provided. So based on the lack of these prominent crest and the shape of the paratoid glands, I am going to have to say that this is indeed a marine toad. Sorry.

Correct. It is definitely a juvenile cane toad. Beside the indicators you mentioned the head is much to large proportionally to be a southern toad.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Mainly this means the dog has to be walked instead of let out in the yard since they seem to have themselves a little home under our propane tank... Stupid dog has pulled out 3 at least... Might be able to grab a bigger one to take a look at it instead of the little one (Let it go already)

Cane toads would be my pick over the treefrog(although I have an uncanny nature to prefer toads to frogs), because cane toads adapt easier to captivity and not only that they live a LONG time, oh and not to mention they are huge and cute. You should get a sexed pair. ;] Females are fatter and bigger btw.
