This spring I want to attract wild gray tree frogs to my garden. Im planning on putting a livestock drinking container in my garden. BUT, my garden is home to way too many slugs and I need to stop them from destroying my plants before they flower.
I dont want to use salt,it will ruin my soil. Poison no, it might hurt the frogs. Would the frogs be hurt by diatomotis earth? It slices up the slugs and kills them. Would it cut the frogs tender underside or thier feet?
Thanks very much, Robin.
Hi Robin! Since diatomaceous earth is made of grounded up diatoms (mostly silica i.e. glass) they are sharp. Appears there are various types, with food grade being finer. The available information is contradicting and even when dealing with pet or farm animals, the application has to be controlled, since it's an eye and respiratory system irritant. Myself would rather search internet for natural control methods like beer traps or similar. Maybe the frogs themselves will eat them!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
