I think this is a northern leopard frog anyone have any other ideas I adopted him from a petco someone dropped it off with 2 fire belly toads and i adopted all 3 petco don`t sell these so they had no idea what it is oh and they had it in with the fire bellys I gave it it`s own terrarium
Colors are a bit off but it does look like a Northern Leopard to me.
It looks like a pickerel frog, Lithobates palustris. A close relative to the leopard frog, but unlike it's cousin, it is toxic and should not be housed with other frogs.
Ah yes, could be a pickerel - that explains the color. Here's a Pickerel Frog I photographed in April:
I thought that myself but there is one big diffidence the nose
the northern leopard frog has a longer nose the pickerel frog the leopard frog has a more pointed nose the pickerel frogs nose is more blunt
I am standing by my ID.
I think the legs look more like a Pickerel so I'm with Kurt.
It has copper colored stripes on either side of it`s back
This is why I think it`s a northern The color I can`t find a pic frog that color
I am not a big expert on Ranids, but the pickerel frog is one that I am very familar with. So I am definitely going to stand by my ID. If you want to make sureand end all doubt, you can always consult a field guide such as the Peterson guide for the eastern US.
The last pics you posted are definitely Lithobates pipiens, the norhtern leopard frog.
Well either way that is a cute little guy you have there. Glad he has his own tank.
the pet store had him in with the fire belly toads I gave him his own tank as soon as we got home I knew the fire bell toads are toxic as well
Ok I have done more research It is a Lithobates palustris thanks for all the feedback and good call kurt
You're welcome. I think pickerels are the coolest of the Ranids.
