Hello everyone. I am new to the forum but should have joined a couple of years ago. I am having trouble with my red eyed tree frog that I've had for about 15 months now. For the past month or so he has been getting grayish, brownish spots on his body which he has never gotton before. From what I've read I suspect a bacterial or fungal infection. After calling all over central maine I finally found a vet. that works with exotic animals. When I got there yesterday, the assistant asked me a bunch of questions about heat, lighting etc. before the doctor came in. When he finally did come in he barely looked at the frog and told me that the problem was because I had no UV lighting for the tank. He wouldn't even give a diagnosis or treat him. He said that once I get the proper lighting it should clear up on it's own. I immediatley went to the pet store to buy the UVB bulb and talked to the "frog guy" there. He told me that UVB lighting was not necessary for tree frogs. Thats what I read online from the very beginning so thats why I didn't provide it. He's lived just fine for the past year without it but now has those spots.I'm very frustrated and confused about what to do???I'm getting completley contradicting advice and don't know who to believe. I really need to find out so he doesn't die. Also is there something I can do at home to get him better. Please Help.
